Although accredited courses and associate degrees are available, the number of schools offering programs in the medical assistant training is fewer than five making it easier in a way for a student to decide his school at the same time increasing the competition as well. Financial aid is mostly received though the national medical assistant organizations.

Employing over 4,000 medical assistants with $12 an hour the wage is low, but is quite the same when compared to the pay in surrounding states. Even though Shreveport and Houma have the most medical assistant jobs with respect to the population , the highest number of jobs are available in New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
