How do you get certified?

One way to do this is by attending a local junior college, vocational school or communitycollege, and enrolling for a program in medical assisting. Mostly these are offered in courses that run for 1-2 years.

A 1 year course can usually get you a certificate, which will act as a very good start. But if you have the time and economy, a 2 year course can allow you the opportunity to get an associate’s degree, which many times can be used as credit if you want to get a bachelor’s degree at some point in the future.

National Examination

To finish your education, it is important to pass the examination. A medical assistant certification can be completed from a many different organizations.

The very best standard when it comes to certification is perhaps the AAMA credential, provided by the American Association of Medical Assistants. You can find many other credentials that can be achieved in different fields, such as Podiatry, Ophthalmology, and many others fields of expertise. When you have completed your training course and passed your exam your starting income will increase by a significant amount from what you would earn if you didn’t have a medical assistant certification.
